Accessibility Statement

Somerset County Maine is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are currently in the process of actively updating our website to ensure it complies with U.S. federal accessibility laws, including Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Our Commitment & Current Status

We believe that the web should be accessible to everyone. To achieve this, we are systematically auditing and updating our digital content to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA standards, which serve as the primary benchmark for federal website compliance.

While these comprehensive technical upgrades are underway, some pages or features may temporarily experience formatting or compatibility issues with certain assistive technologies. We appreciate your patience as we work diligently to resolve these gaps.

Accessibility Features Being Implemented

Our ongoing remediation work includes, but is not limited to:

  • Improving keyboard-only navigation pathways.
  • Adding descriptive alternative text (alt text) to images and non-text elements.
  • Ensuring high text-to-background color contrast ratios for readability.
  • Optimizing form fields and page structures for modern screen readers.
